Another way to relish underwater magnificence

People said that there are two ways to enjoy underwater magnificence. We can enjoy the underwater magnificence from the elevation and directly be on the water.  Definitely, underwater magnificence can refresh our mind and dismiss a black outlook because there are many amazing creature lives inside it. However, there is one perfect way to enjoy underwater magnificence, it is called free diving.
Freediving is a different term from scuba diving which needs complex respiratory equipment. Meanwhile in free diving, freediver just need to hold their breath. The term free diving derived from Greece word “apnea” which means breath. Literally, the word “apnea” did not have a relationship with any water activities, however in recent terminology the word “apnea” is used to refer freediving or freedive. The point is we dive freely without rely on any respiratory equipment. It just about human enjoying nature with theirs own body.

Many said that freediving is extreme sport because it is risky activity.  Nevertheless, Mahesa, the founder of Bandung Freediving rejected it. He said that freedive or freediving is an activity that worth to try and if we follow the rules and join the coaching session everything will stay on the track.


In learning freediving all we need are courage and aim. Also, there is no age limitation in learning freediving. There are some basic steps needed, start with warming up to make sure that our body is not strained, the next is relaxation, it is needed to make the freediver feels comfortable so our brain will work harder to burn the O2 becomes CO2 and then our body will respond by take a deep breath. Make sure that we are comfortable, so we can restrain the O2 to make we dive longer.
Then, freediver has to do the static; it is when the freediver hold the breath in the surface quietly. It has purpose to train our endurance to hold our breath inside the water. Next is “duck dive” we have to dive from the surface into the deep water as deep as we can. Then, equalize it is how we adapt the air pressure inside the water with pinch our nose and drain the air through ear. It is important part to do to avoid we broke our ear drum. Last, is dynamic, it is a movement in the deep water. The freediver have to hold the breath and beat the feet.

For you who want to try this hobby you don’t need to worry about the budget because this is a quite economical hobby. For the beginner, we have to prepare Rp 500.000 or  (+/-) $ 38 include a snorkel mask and fin or frog shoes. Please note that we have to be companions by experts to minimalized accident.
