Sometime, a beautiful thing only can be seen and admired. Usually, I myself give a trigger for you guys to go travel and enjoy some tourism spot, but in this time I’ll go differently. As conservation that deserves protection, there is a trending conservation located in Malang, East Java names Sempu Island. This is a distinct island. It is 877 hectare wide and detached from Java Island it’s like a piece of heaven that secretly hid in the midst of crowd. Sempu Island has been officially protected since long time ago. Sempu Island, an island with beach weald, mangrove and tropical weald gives a signal that they are worth to be protected by all human. Sadly, it is only a hope, this conservation area is abandoned.

As the time passed, the purity of Sempu Island is disgraced. Many tourists come by just to enjoy themselves. These days, based on the Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Jawa Timur (BKSDA) officers’ statement, the condition of Sempu Island is already polluted. The white sand is no longer white. There are heap of trash everywhere it is like breakout in our clean face. The condition was different long time ago, when Sempu Island was preserved from humans’ ego to destroy it. It was no joke, because there are military forces that assigned to protect that place. The tourist who wants to refresh their mind there now changes into a “hurricane” that ready to destroy Sempu Island. The lacks of regulation that control any prohibited activities on conservation areas make the “hurricane” tourists easily destroy Sempu Island. As you know, this beautiful place is a home to breed for local flora and fauna, such as :

All we need is high awareness from the tourists who comes to Sempu Island and another conservation area. If you come to Sempu Island just want to enjoy yourself, I recommend to explore another tourism spot. It is for the sake of the continuity of Sempu Island. There is never-ending story about Sempu Island if you want to share. There is a perfect collaboration between clear lagoon and white sand that become an attractive view that makes you want to visit it. In addition, to protect a conservative area, the awareness is not only comes for the tourist but also the local communities and the goverments should have high awareness to take care and protect Sempu Island and all the natural resources inside it.

"Please don’t be influenced to exploit the conservation area for the sake of money and make a living”.

A message for the regulation makers

“Please create set of strict rule about the gate protection for crossing activities from Java Island to Sempu. What Sempu Island need is high awareness from everyone".

A message for tourisms agency

“Please stop a vacation promotion about Sempu Island!, This islad is not tourism spot better for you to offer another tourism spot”.

Sempu Island is not officially closed. That is just a prohibition for the tourists or the local communities. If you want to enjoy Sempu Island to conduct observation, research, knowledge and education improvement Sempu Island is welcoming you with smile. You just need an official admittance from BKSDA, and an admittance letter Izin Masuk Kawasan Konservasi (SIMAKSI). The writer gives full support for them who want to enrich their knowledge.

I have a will that someday I can gather people (volunteers) to come to Sempu Island to take care and develop it. The easiest way is pick up all the trash and throw it to the right place.
